Discussing his color photography later in his career, Harry Callahan recalled: “I started color almost as soon as I got started going—around 1941. I did a lot of camera movement on neon signs in black and white. . .and then I did it in color. And when I did multiple exposures I did some in color. I got into color sort of unconsciously doing those neon signs. Boy, they had such terrific colors. So I just did it in color, that’s all. And a lot of times that would happen to me. I would do something and I’d think, ‘that would be nice in color.’”
