Rowlandson is best known for his satirical drawings and prints such as those created for the Doctor Syntax books, which were published by Rudolf Ackermann (1764–1834) and widely disseminated. But here, Rowlandson has paused to sketch a woodland scene in his traditional style of reed pen outlines filled in with washes.
