The Baltimore Museum of Art has collected architectural elements from Maryland buildings ever since 1929 when it moved to its present site. Salvaged from a house slated for demolition at 128 North Front Street in Baltimore, this neoclassical arched door surround is one of the earliest fragments to enter the museum’s collection. The surround was recently repainted. Its current coloration is based upon recent technical analysis of extant 19th-century paint fragments that survived when the door was salvaged.
From 128 N. Front Street, Baltimore, Maryland.
