One of two narrow panels of printed fabric woven of heavy blended(?) fibers created from one finished width which was split down the center. Both panels have a taupe background on which is printed a dove with a worm in its mouth hovering over a large and centrally positioned haystack hosting a nest of small birds. A farm in the background is printed in blue, two colors of green, dark and medium brown, light cream, white, and brick red.* The weave appears deliberately irregular with changes in tension, thread size, fiber, etc. giving texture to the surface. Both panels are finished with a 3/8' hem held by a double row of machine stitching on the selvage or outer sides, and crude 1/4' hems on the cut or inner sides sewn in dark blue or brown thread. Both have a 3-1/8' to 3-1/4' hem at the top stitched by machine. Panel A has a hem approximately 4-1/2'-5' wide which is almost completely loosened. Panel B has no hem.
Update: The hem in panel A, which was very insecure with only a few threads attaching it, was removed by conservator (Louise Wheatley) on 2-10-98. The change in measurement reflects this.
