Hayagriva is identifiable by the three small horse heads in his hair. This powerful deity combats demons and obstacles with fierce strength. In some traditions, Hayagriva is an independent entity. In others, he takes on the wrathful of Amitabha. In still others, he is a fierce emanation manifesting the compassion of Avalokitesvara (Guanyin).
