The length of jacquard-woven silk consists of a yellow-gold ground with small-scale compartmentalized design in blue and purple featuring circles with red cross motifs, red diamonds with white wan motifs, and double wan motifs in purple on gold. Weave creates a 'sharkskin' effect, looking either gold or purple, depending on angle of viewer. Both selvages are present; top and bottom edges are cut. One end (pattern has no orientation) seems to be the end of the bolt, due to the bands of color woven into it.
The Baltimore Museum of Art by gift, 2002; Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Slack, Gibson Island, Maryland, by inheritance; collected in the early 1920s by Dr. and Mrs. Henry Slack when they lived in China
