Costume worn by Marchesa Casati to the masquerade ball held by the Comte and Comtesse de Beaumount in July 1935. The costume is based on Franz Xavier Winterhalter's portrait of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. She is posed in front of a backdrop painted by Christian Bérard of the Empress's stallions Flick and Flock. This Man Ray portrait was reproduced in the British journal "Tatler" (October 2, 1935).
