Wurtzburger permanent gallery label: "The small, human-form, "beautiful," Elu masks performed with 'anti-social' masks in dramatic representations of the duality of life at festivals and funerals of secret society members. A conical cap of raffia covered the dancer's head, and the mask was worn in front of the face. The dancer manipulated the hinged lower jaw with his lip although this mechanism was kept secret from the uninitiated." -entered by L. Simmons 01.14.13
