"Morning in Carolina" by Ralph McGuire, 1947. Oil on board. McGuire's style was considered to be "naive;" similar to folk-art. Using watercolors, oil paints, ink, and wood, he created intimate scenes of Baltimore buildings and landscapes with bold and charming color combinations. This image features a table scene in a narrow window with and open door. The strong perspective draws the viewer outside where there is a small building in the distance. This is a softer color palette for McGuire.
