Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore;
The narrator opens his window to reveal a Parisian cityscape,
the night sky lightened to emphasize the Raven’s black profile.
As the Raven makes his uninvited entrance, the man’s shock
and excitement is expressed subtly through the gesture of his
outspread fingers.
