Panther crouching in front of a civet cat, and looking directly at it. The panther's proper left fore and hind legs are forward and its tail is curled up at tip; the rippled skin on its back is rendered in detail. The civet cat is lying flat on ground with raised head turned to its proper left (looking at the panther). Barye has captured the tense moment just before the panther pounces on its prey. Base: natural rocky ground; no rim.
