Inscribed: RECTO: signed, lower margin at left, just below engraved surface, "Vte. Lepic sculpt."; in upper left of engraved surface, "Vicomte Lepic 1863". Inscribed on sign hanging around dog's neck: Donne á qui prie et demande Caz* au seuil de L'eternité Il n'est qu'un mot que L'ange entende Et qui Fasse se ouvrir, Charité *could the "z" in Caz be a backwards S? Rough translation: Give to those who pray and beg At Eternity's Gate For there is only one word the angel hears And opens the door is Charity "; in lower margin at right, just below engraved surface, "Imp. Delâtre Rue St. Jacques, 303, Paris." Lower in center, the title. In lower margin in center, at bottom, "Paris Publié par A. CADART & J. LUQUET Editeurs, Rue Richalieu 79."
