While terra cotta and clay were employed to create finished sculpture, these materials were also used to make preparatory models. Like sketches on paper, such studies often reveal the artist's creative process. These two works (BMA 1930.47.1a-b), called 'bozzetti' in Italian, represent Old Testabment prophets and have been attributed to the Flemish sculptor Juste Le Cour who worked in Rome and Venice.
