Whistler focused on dockland life rather than on famous monuments. This print depicts two seamen across the river from Wapping at the Angel Inn, one of the few seventeenth-century structures that still existed along the Thames. St. Paul’s Cathedral, by contrast, is reduced to a small form on the horizon, obscured by masts and rigging.
