A sarong [matching jacket BMA 2006.78] composed of a long rectangular piece of fine black cotton ornamented with horizontal stripes of embroidery and appliqué with end pieces (possibly added) approximately 4" at each end ornamented with vertical rows of embroidery. The repeating stripes are each composed of two 3/8" wide strips of the red ground polka dot fabric appliquéd to the ground with machine stitching. These flank a strip of applied woven "tape" ornamented with lines of colored threads. These appliqued and embroidered ornamental stripes are separated by ½" areas of undecorated finely textured black cotton ground. The ends of the sarong are finished with heavily embroidered 4" strips decorated with green, red, and yellow embroidery in much darker hues than those in the body of the garment. The long center and the end panels are separated by a line of triangles composed of appliqued strips of the red-ground white polka dot fabric filled in with embroidery in yellow, green, and coral threads.
