Physical Qualities Earthenware, smudged black, 9 in. (22.9 cm.)
Credit Line Gift of Mrs. J. Lee Tailer
Object Number 1934.63.7
Mold-made, rounded and carinated body, in impeccable form. The bottle exterior has been slipped and fired in a reduced atmosphere. Burnish marks are visible. This example is typical of mass-produced Chimú blackware that features a monkey applique at the spout juncture and small protruding lugs at the base of the stirrup handle. In this example the lugs are shaped in the form of sea lion's heads.
