Silver sugar bowl with cover made by Simon Wedge, Sr., c. 1810. Part of a 5-piece coffee/tea set. This sugar bowl's ovoid shape is balanced on either side by Empire-style applied silver handles. It is raised upon an oval stepped pedestal foot. The body is ornamented with deep gadrooning and the domed lid is topped with an urn finial. One side is engraved 'IAR' in a beautiful foliate script.

Inscribed: Engraved monogram "IAR" (almost illegible)

Markings: Stamped letters "S", "W", eagle's head facing left inside an oval (considered his earliest mark)
