This work highlights Jacque’s skill in using drypoint technique to produce sumptuous velvety darks that befit the nocturnal setting and poignancy of the scene. Jacque has conflated his interest in the untouched landscape and rustic life with the biblical overtones
suggested by the title in a way that would have piqued Tanner’s interest.
