Untitled is informed by Aleksandr Rodchenko’s interest in graphic design, photography, and geometric abstraction. Here the artist has placed an image of an airplane above
a photograph of the backs of two horses taken by the artist while riding in a wagon—the two images, grossly out of scale with one another, are loosely connected via two geometric black shapes set against a plain white ground. This modernist composition conveys something of the experience of encountering two forms of transportation, one old and one new, on the streets of Moscow at the time.
