This diptych, or two-part artwork, represents the same element in different media. On the left is Bernhard Hildebrandt’s glossy, monochromatic painting. On the right is the artist’s photograph of the painting as it hung in his studio. Sunlight and shadows from the studio’s architecture create new depth on the painting’s reflective, subtly textured surface, revealing the nuanced application of enamel paint and showcasing the interplay between light and surface. In his Stereo series, Hildebrandt intertwined illusion and reality, showing representation and abstraction side-by-side to create uncertainty.
