The Wiener Werkstätte was established in 1903 as a collaborative association for avant-garde designers and skilled artisans to present their wares to adventurous consumers. Koloman Moser joined Josef Hoffmann as a cofounder of the workshops. Moser’s designs ranged from books and graphics to stained-glass windows, porcelain, ceramics, blown glass, silver, jewelry, and furniture. The stripped-down severity of this vase is softened by the textured metal with narrow openings that allow flashes of bright blue glass to be seen.
