Darning sampler featuring a vase with a bouquet and Rococo lozenges in each corner displaying different patterns and colors. The central lt. blue vase includes a scene with a man and woman looking toward a small building with a red and white striped roof. The vase, which has fancy foot and opening and rests on a hillock contains a bouquet including a carnation, a rose, a large tulip, possibly a lily, and smaller flowers of various kinds with curling leaves. Each corner features an unusually shaped container or basket with flowers. Each is of a different design, pattern, and color.
The work is done primarily in multiple colors of silk (floss) using darning stitches with outlines of chain stitches. The ground fabric is extremely fine and thin (possibly "tiffany" gauze" or scrim). The stitching is extremely delicate. The edges appear to have been lost on each side, although the frame tends to hide this in most areas.
