One from a series of three numbered engravings, formerly attributed to Jan Saenredam, but now attributed to Hendrick Goltzius. The complete series is in the Garrett Collection (see 1946.112.13883 - 1946.112.13885), along with a second impression of "Venus and Cupid" (1984.81.2700).

Inscribed: Recto: in image, lower center, in plate "HG"; in image, lower right, in plate "2"; below image, lower margin, in plate, two columns of text, each two lines "Immenso nostrum spectatur numen in orbe, / Et magnam pafsin vim meus ignis habet. / Non vij, non homines ulli mea spicula vitant, / His volucres figo, Squamigerumip genus."

Markings: CM: none WM: crowned shield with small tower at bottom, with "WR" below
