Wedding overskirt with 4" wide rose-red cotton waistband, equipped with single loops at each end with red woven ribbon knotted through each loop. The skirt features a red silk satin front and back panels 11-1/8" wide. One panel is embroidered with a phoenix in couched gold metallic wrapped threads. The phoenix stands on a rock rising from the ocean. In the waves below are auspicious symbols of coins pearls, rhinoceros horns and other emblems. In the sky are clouds and bats. The other panel is embroidered with a five-clawed dragon in couched gold metallic wrapped threads above a mountain rising from the ocean with similar auspicious symbols as the first panel. Embroidered in red, white, rose, dark blue, light blue, orchid, green, blue-green, black white, purple and orange silk threads. Both of these panels are trimmed in multiple borders including warp- patterned ribbons, white satin borders embroidered in flowers (lotus, peonies, orchids, and berries), and piping. The lower ends are further embellished with net forming a coin-shaped pattern and ornamented with silver disks (3 of original 6 remain) and multicolored tassels (lt. blue-green violet, blue, orange, rose-red, green, yellow, red, and yellow-green. (21 of orig. 24 remain, some colors repeat). Between the larger panels are sets of 11 or 12 multi-colored silk satin streamers (violet, white, dark blue, lt. blue, red), each embroidered with flowers on front and back. Lined in silk and interlined with paper.
