Indigenous artists across the Americas have created powerful and innovative artworks for thousands of years. The Baltimore Museum of Art cares for nearly 2,500 works by artists from Indigenous communities.
These artworks reflect a wide range of materials, traditions, and creative practices. Indigenous artists often draw on ancestral knowledge, storytelling, and relationships with land and community while also experimenting with contemporary forms.
By sharing these works, the Museum hopes to encourage research into both individualartists and community-based traditions. The artworks highlight the enduring creativity and perspectives of Indigenous peoples across North and South America.
The BMA works closely with Native communities to care for these objects responsibly and to ensure that its records reflect Indigenous knowledge and voices.
