The scroll depicts a female manifestation of the Bodhisattva Guanyin (Avalokitesvara) standing on a lotus, with an image of Buddha Amitabha in her headdress. There is a lengthy red ink inscription in Archaic seal script of a Buddhist text relating to Amitaba’s Western paradise.
