A square sampler featuring a poem and landscape within a wide arcarded chrysantemum/carnation border. The poem is the popular "Jesus permit thy gracious Name to stand," including six lines all written in upper and lower case. The landscape includes a three storey, five bay building situated upon a high hill. A path leads to a lawn below where a sheep is grazing. A deer is also present. Flowers and trees are included as are a small crown, a small floral design and several motifs on either end of the inscription The sampler is signed in embroidery at the bottom "Susanna Clark, Aged 11 years," and the date finished May 11, 1807." Framed in what appears to be a somewhat battered silver leaf frame.
