Inscription under engraving of bridge: 'A South East View/of the Iron Bridge over the/Wear, near Sunderland. Foundati/on stone laid by R. Burdori Esq./Sept. 24th 1793, opened Aug/9th 1796.' Inscription on the front of the jug, opposite the handle: ‘SAY IF NO MORE IN CONVERSE SWEET, / THE BLISSFUL HOURS SHALL FLEE; / OR IF THAT WE NO MORE MAY MEET. / WILT THOU REMEMBER ME. NO TIME SHALL CHANGE MY FIRM REGARD OR BANISH THOUGHTS OF THEE; HO! I WILL FEEL A SWEET REGARD IF THOU’LT REMEMBER ME.’ Inscription under engraving of three ships: ‘Majestically slow before the breeze / In silent pomp she cleaves the watery’ plain / The tall Ship marches on the azure seas / The pride and wonder of the billowy main.’
