An oil lamp once perched atop this tall Baltimore-made column to cast a wide circle of illumination, like a modern torchère or floor lamp. Energetically turned and boldly decorated in a variety of techniques, the lampstand typifies the vigor of early 19th-century Baltimore painted furniture.
