Inscribed: INSIDE, (paper label), "American Clock Company / Depot, No. 3 Cortlandt Street / New-York. / Directions for Regulating. / This is done by means of a Screw at the bottom / of the Pendulum. If the clock runs too fast, lower / the ball, if too slow, raise it." INSIDE, (stamp) "Patent May 10, 1859" [patent for clock movement?] Reverse, at base (raised in the cast iron), "No1 F.S. Otis Patent N.Y. 1857" Handwritten on the back of the clock: "Jan 3 1878 [BGS or 365] / J. A. Po?rwell" and "?? 92" and "[mostly illegible] / No. 219 / W. E. Po?rson" No marks on the dial.
