The Absent-Minded. This artist, after having been to the Salon, is seized by a sublime inspiration and approaches his canvas. All of a sudden, tones of music, the most piquant effect the most delicate touch promising a masterpiece. 2, 3, 4 hours gone by and something as appealing as a Titian, Michelangelo is left to posterity..... Afterwards, once his excitement has subsided, he realizes..... he had forgotten to use the brush.

Robert Macaire before his judges. Very well! Yes, gentlemen, I was rather unfortunate at the Assize Court... but misfortune is always respectable!... moreover, it’s true what has been said, I've a habit of subtracting money, it's easier to excuse me than someone else because it's harder for me to resist my weakness... as for the rest, I am accused of selling lead for gold? Twenty witnesses swear to it. Very well! I deny it forty times and since two denials are worth an avowal it's clear that you cannot find me guilty. (after this brilliant improvisation Robert Macaire is condemned with a maximum sentence).

Great Exhibition... of Industry and Contemporary Jokes. Enter and judge for yourself! Everything is arranged and ready: The pancake of the courts good for digestion (To the side: and difficult to digest). The Master-thief who catches all!! (save for his shadow). Liquid bitumen! (exactly). Men's shirts for the use of little children. The marvellous indestructible hats (that melt in the sun and dissolve in the rain). Dromedar cream in great demand (by fools). English beer with lots of froth (like in the newspapers). Simpleton's sublime, the classic coal of Saint Pétrain that one can put to the test (at any time).
