Swirling whirls of black line and deep indentations rhythmically revolve around this vase, capturing the velocity of wind. The technique for making thick pressed glass was first demonstrated at the 1925 World’s Fair in Paris, France, where the versatile designer Suzanne Lalique-Haviland exhibited works in both ceramic and glass. Following the fair, she conceived this vase simulating energy, and it was mass-produced using the new power press technology in her father René Lalique’s glass manufactory.
Baltimore Museum of Art, "New on View", June 19-October 6, 2002.
