Jingdezhen kilns

Vase

1766

Physical Qualities Porcelain with red transmutation glaze, 20.6 H cm.
Credit Line Bequest of Dr. W. Lehman Guyton, Cockeysville, Maryland
Object Number 2011.357
“Jun Red” is a term still used by Jingdezhen kilns to describe shiny red porcelains. Whereas a blue jun ware tea bowl might be decorated with a splash of red, this red vase has a blue rim which was an accidental and optical effect not deliberately intended.
