An embroidered panel depicting an elaborate tree of life motif. The embroidery is worked on a cream silk satin ground measuring 20-3/8" selvage to selvage, with embroidery performed in multiple types of silver metallic threads including metal wrapped threads, purls, and sequins, and also lt. pink, dk. pink, blue, maroon, gold, purple, and white silk floss. The Tree of Life in the center is adorned with numerous flowers and fruit (jack fruit, papaya?) and harbors several species of birds including peacocks both with feathers displayed and silhouetted to side, and hens or cocks. The birds and forms are worked in silver threads and spandles and multiple colors. At the bottom of the panel is a mound formed with three dimensional raised work with floss and metallic embroidery. From this mound date or other exotic palm trees emerge along with smaller plants. Several inches up another ground dissects the composition, this time with scalloped edges, from which grow cypress-like trees and bushy plants. Plants, trees, leaves, fruit, flowers, birds, etc. often have bodies that are stuffed and embroidered with a colored silk beneath silver threads. The panel was originally framed in a gold faux bamboo frame with a painted orange liner and a wide light beige or dark cream mat. The framers label is on reverse.
