A square Kashmir shawl or rumal with a very small black twill-woven center of irregular shape approximately 8”-9” wide, which carries an inscription embroidered in white thread. The center is encroached upon by the woven field. The field is composed of elaborate “cursive leaf” or “vase” designs showing European design influence. It is woven in twill-tapestry in sections and pieced together. Colors include black, white, blue, green, yellow, magenta, violet, pink, and orange. Embroidered insets are also found within the field. A woven inner border approximately 3” wide separates the field from a second border that is approximately 3-3/4” wide and composed of embroidered and appliquéd designs. A final border approximately 1-1/2” wide is composed of small rectangular sections of multiple colored wools with a short self fringe.
