Physical Qualities Silk, 28-1/2 x 13-1/2 in. (72.4 x 34.2 cm.)
Credit Line Gift of Mrs. John W. Garrett
Object Number 1950.82.4c
One of six irregularly shaped fragments of printed silk crepe with a pattern consisting of solid triangles of purple and blue alternating with white-ground triangles containing abstract floral designs and roosters in red, green, yellow, and/or orange: (a): A sleeve pattern piece. All edges are un-finished. The top edge is partially seamed. The right edge shows evidence of a previous seam now disassembled. The remaining edges are cut and remain unbound. (b): A sleeve pattern piece similar to 'a', except evidence of machine stitching is found on the left edge. The top edge has a partial seam still intact. The bottom and right edges are left cut and unbound. (c): A pattern piece of half a bodice with neckline, armhole, and shoulder line evident. The left side has a selvage with label signature of Léon Bakst, printed in black 9-3/4' from the bottom. The remaining edges are cut and unbound. Evidence of past seams are visible along the selvage. (d): A pattern piece representing a quarter of a bodice, with half a neckline, armhole, and shoulder line evident. All edges are cut and unbound. The right edge gives evidence of a past seam, with machine stitch holes and threads remaining. e): A nine-sided pattern piece for trousers front to back. The piece represents a wide and voluminous style; the rise between the waist and crotch measures 24' high. The length below this for the leg measures 16'. All edges have disassembled seams, with many threads remaining. f): A nine-sided pattern piece of a trouser back or front. Seams formerly on all sides have been removed leaving machine-stitch holes and threads. The waist and crotch measures 24' high. The length below this for the leg measures 16'. All edges have disassembled seams, with many threads remaining.
