Physical Qualities Wool, linen, 7-1/4 x 7 in.
Credit Line The Cone Collection, formed by Dr. Claribel Cone and Miss Etta Cone of Baltimore, Maryland
Object Number 1950.2016.5
This Coptic medallion would probably have been one of two matching roundels adorning an Egyptian tunic. Within the roundel are two different Tree of Life motifs, one perhaps representing a lotus and the other a pomegranate. Both are stylized and abstracted. The multicolored border is often referred to as “gems.”
